Hey Janet, what does an AE do?

I’ve been asked, what is it that we do exactly as account executives at KPS3? In short, we make all of our clients dreams a reality.

If this gif doesn’t look familiar to you, you probably haven’t yet seen the hit show on NBC, The Good Place. Meet the woman in purple, Janet. She has all of the answers and makes the impossible possible. That’s mostly because Janet isn’t human. She’s a robot. If there is a fictional character that relates most to what I do, it’s not Pete Campbell or Kenny Cosgrove of the Mad Men. It’s Janet of The Good Place.

Yeah, ok. It may be weird to compare what I do to the all-knowing artificial intelligence of Janet. But while Janet is a robot, coincidently, KPS3 is a digital-first agency. I gather a lot of data, coordinate a lot of things, answer a lot of questions and work with a team to create a lot of cool stuff (often times out of nothing) to provide our clients meaningful and impactful solutions to help their businesses.

As an Account Executive, I feel incredibly fortunate to work with fantastic clients who introduce me as a part of their team. And that’s exactly what we’re going for here at KPS3, to be trusted advisors who can easily fold into the inner workings of an organization so we can best understand their needs and collaborate on integrated marketing strategies that will deliver results. We get it. We’re in it to win it.

Of course, there will be days that look more like this (behind closed doors). Like Janet, I am 100% confidential but unlike Janet, I am human.

It’s the being human part that allows us to have active, thoughtful relationships with the people we work with. The teamwork and collaboration that goes into a successful campaign is accomplished because of the collective effort on both the client and agency side.

Being human also allows us to challenge the data we collect and provide context and perspective based on our industry knowledge and experience. In a world where decisions will be made by data, KPS3 helps companies change the way their marketing is informed and measured.

And while some projects and questions require more time to provide data-backed analysis—when a client asks me after a successful day of meetings and sharing stellar results to their board, “you’re staying after to have wine, right?” Well, that is the best, easiest (and my favorite) question to answer.

Let’s Get Personal (Through Empathetic Marketing)

When I first started my marketing career in the early ‘90s, account planning by and large consisted of studying primary and secondary research in order to arrive at a solid strategy. Fast forward to today. In working with so many different, sophisticated clients and having been through the sea change of tech, the “discovery” phase is now comprised of so much more than studying traditional market research. It seems that my empathetic nature has helped immensely in developing solid...
