RenoAirport.com Mobile Website
According to the Pew Research Center study in 2011, 85% of U.S. adults (18+) have a mobile phone. Across the spectrum, 95% of Millennial (18-34) own a cell phone, 92% of Gen X (35-46) own a cell phone and 84% of Boomers (57-65) own a cell phone. 40% of those use their cell phones for mobile web browsing. Further, 84% of people that browse on a mobile phone say they expect to see a dedicated mobile version of the site.
There was more than just a national expectation. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport saw the percentage of mobile browsing to their site rise from 12% of total site traffic to 30% in the past 12 months. The most visited pages within the site had some of the highest mobile traffic (specifically the Arrivals page, with up to 50% of traffic from mobile). The need for a dedicated mobile version of the website was clear.
Mobile sites are designed to make navigation on the small screen of a mobile device easier. We analyzed the most visited areas of site content while on a mobile and made strategic decisions about which featured links to provide on the homepage. The full site content was available, but the mobile version of the site was structured to specifically serve the mobile user - serving them the top content priorities, based on data. In fact, since the Arrivals information is the most accessed content on a mobile device, we served up a running feed of arrival data on the mobile homepage.
KPS3 developed a unique and attractive mobile design that is easy to read and easy to navigate without sacrificing content from the full site. Mobile traffic to the site continues to increase and visitors are being served a mobile-friendly version of the site, making it easier for them to find the information they're looking for.
