PR and Marketing Trends to Watch for in 2012
As another year comes to a close, we are starting to see “lists” published pertaining to the year that was and the year ahead. “This is true in the marketing industry with things such as “Top 10 Life Changing Social Media Moments of the Year,” “2012 Marketing: 5 Trends to Follow” and the famous “Top 12 for 2012.” Whether these lists are applicable to your business or appeal to your personal life, the array of lists symbolize that it’s time to look toward the future and starting planning for the year. It is time to look forward to the changes, challenges and opportunities that 2012 will offer.
It’s safe to say that social and digital media have completely changed the landscape of our lives as well as the way we communicate, especially in the world of public relations. When you think about how we consume information, minute-to-minute and day-to-day, and the expectation we place on content creators — paired with presentation, access, exposure and engagement — it’s a wonder any of us have time to sleep.
Of course 2012 will be no different. The drive to find the perfect combination of human behaviors, technology that affects them and engagement is still the moving target that we strive to hit. So the question is: How do we get there? By understanding the tools that are right at our fingertips and gathering the knowledge needed to tackle the challenges we are presented with.
With the current trends, there is little doubt that 2012 will be about connecting the “digital with the physical” and what an exciting year it’s going to be!
Each of the trends below are from a presentation given by Jonathan Bean, Mynewsdesk COO, that took place over three days, in three different cities: Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg, from Oct. 12-14, 2011. Bean’s predictions regarding the PR and Marketing industry over the next year are clever, insightful and applicable to clients both large and modest. Enjoy!
